Do you compare your insurance policy rates
when they come up for renewal?

At the beginning of March my
auto insurance came up for renewal.

I received the new policy in the mail and
the first thing I looked for was the new renewal rate.
Of course it was higher than last year. $150 higher.
Why?  I did not file any claims.   I had no accidents
or tickets.   So I scanned the policy to see if the insurance
company added additional coverage to the policy.

One of the reasons for the increase was they
added 800 miles to my current annual mileage.

This is what the new policy stated:
IF YOU DO NOT COMPLETE AND RETURN THIS FORM,
YOUR RENEWAL POLICY WILL BE RATED USING
THE MILEAGE DISPLAYED ON THE ENCLOSED DECLARATION.
THE RATED ANNUAL MILEAGE FOR RENEWAL IS HIGHER
THAN YOUR EXPIRING POLICY MILEAGE BY 800 MILEAGE.
THIS CHANGE MAY RESULT IN A HIGHER PREMIUM.

I wonder how many people do not check this and do not
return the form with the annual mileage request.

I filled out the annual mileage form and sent it in and had my rate reduced.

I then proceeded to call three different insurance companies to get quotes.
I want the best rate possible.  My current company still had the best rate available.

Lesson: Make sure you compare your renewals for
insurance to see that they are comparable to the year before.
Look over your new policy to see what the insurance
companies are adding to the new policy.
