Have the End in Mind

When living a life with Money on your terms,
it is about executing the right steps to take
complete control of your life and money.
This includes having your affairs in order
upon death so you can transfer your estate
easily to loved ones. For this to happen,
you want to have a will, describing in detail
how you would like your stuff to be distributed.
If you die without a will, then the courts
decide who gets your possessions. When there
are young children involved and no will was
in place, then a judge can determine who will
raise them. You can easily have a say in the
matter by creating a will specifying the terms
you want.

How many people will take the time to write
out a will? Statistics show that over 50% of
our population does not have a will. This is
completely senseless. Here is just another
example of how people in our society let the
system take complete control of them when
it could easily be avoided.

Here are some common reasons why people don’t have a will:
1. Thinking it cost too much.
2. Thinking it takes too long.
3. Procrastination, thinking they will do it before they die.
4. Thinking their estate is too small.
5. Thinking they are too young.
6. They are single.

Whatever the reason, everyone over the age
of 18 should have a will. Why bother at such
a young age? How much could an 18 year old have?
First, eighteen is the legal age to have a will.
Second, it is not about what you own; it is
about establishing good habits at any age.
I believe writing out a will builds confidence
because it is an opportunity to demonstrate
that money and life are on your terms.

Writing such an important document may seem
scary, but it doesn’t need to be. Think of
it as a gift you are leaving behind. It is
a gift because you are making it clear on
how you want your estate to be distributed.
Without a will, you are leaving behind a headache
for your loved ones by letting the state control
the distribution of your assets which can be
a costly, long drawn out process.

Writing out a will is actually an easier activity
then you might think. By following a few simply
rules you can make your will valid in no time.

You have many resources available to use that
are either free or cost effective. You can
access information about writing a will from
the internet or download an e-book from Amazon.com.
Your local library has many resources available
about all aspects of will writing. Want a professional
look? Then purchase a software program that will
take you through the steps.

If you still think you don’t have the time,
you can always hire an estate attorney to do
it for you. Of course, you will be paying
the going rate for attorney fees.

If you haven’t got around to writing out
your will then make it a top priority.

Everyone is going to die someday, so why
not go out, “On Your Terms” with a will
in place.
