What Stops People from Achieving Success.

To start 2014 off on a good note, I want to talk about persevering
through life so you can accomplish your resolutions and goals
this year.  In the last blog post, I talked about taking things one day
at a time in order to follow your resolutions.  This post, I would like
to discuss what stops people from having success and what you
can do make this year your year.

John Lennon, one of my personal favorite song writers of all time,
said this about life: “Life happens to us while we are busy making
other plans.”  This quote resonates with my belief as to why people
stop achieving their goals.  People get excited in the beginning stages
of wanting to accomplishing something, make a change, or have
something new in their life.  They start trying to make it happen, then
at some point along the way, they are thrown off course.  Life presents
them with a challenge or obstacle, and they are unable to make the
necessary adjustments to stay on course.  I am telling you this not
to discourage you, but to bring awareness so you can deal with
these problems.

Let me tell you about something that happened to me this past
Friday, January 11.  I was looking forward to the weekend and everyone
had been asking me, “How are things going?”  Since I was coming off
a great 2013 and looking forward to another great year, I been telling
everyone, “Things are going really well right now.” Then all of a sudden,
life brought me an unexpected obstacle.  I received an email from one
of my property managers on a rental property I own.  The email headline
read ”Move Out Notice Received.”   I was wondering what this was all
about since all my rental agreements are in full force right now.  The email
stated that the tenant was moving out because they purchased a new
home.  I am always glad to hear someone has become a homeowner.
However, they had 7 months left on the contract with me.  Plus, this
property was back east, and it is the dead of winter.  This was definitely
an unexpected challenge.

Well, I can tell you Friday was not my best day. I am only human!  I had
every negative thought you could think of, felt every bad feeling you could
feel in your body, and I wanted to eat everything in sight to get rid of those
crappy emotions.  I bought a Boston Cream Pie and ate half of it in one sitting.
However, one of my New Year’s resolutions was to work on a six pack.  Not a
six pack of beer, but my six pack of muscles on my abs.  When you have one
challenge in your life, it starts affecting all areas of your life.  So I chose to
only let this affect me for a day instead of a lifetime.  I could let those negative
thoughts and feelings continue to disrupt my life.  But I am not going to let
this happen.  I learned long ago to never let anything bring me down.  I found
that if I am able to persevere through an obstacle, I will come out successful
on the other end.

To get back on track, I needed to have a positive outlook on this.  I thought to
myself, “What is the best possible course correction I can take to deal with this?”
So this is the course correction I chose:

1.  I changed my thoughts to a new creditworthy good paying tenant will rent
the property for the long term.

2. I will start lining up everything I need to do to get this property rent ready
as soon as possible.

3. I will stay on top of this until the home is rented again.

So, when you are faced with the challenges or obstacles that life throws at
you as you pursue your resolutions, goals, and dreams, embrace them and take
the proper steps to navigate your way to success. Always move forward and
keep your vision alive.  Make this year the year of success as life happens
to you and as you adjust your plans in response.

I know you can do it.

I let you know how my obstacle with the rental property fares in a upcoming blog.
